Prestigious Scholarships

The University of Evansville provides direct support to students seeking postgraduate and undergraduate international scholarships. Associated with each of the opportunities below is a campus contact to help guide the application process. If you are interested in applying for one of these opportunities, please click on the appopriate link at the bottom of the page to submit your interest. Each of the opportunities is linked to the scholarship website so that students can research and begin the application process. All summary information found below is provided from the scholarship websites. Please be aware that all scholarships listed below have an on-campus application/interview process.

The Rhodes is the oldest of the international prestigious scholarships and was organized after 1902 with the first American Scholars selected in 1904.  These comprehensive scholarships are considered investments in talented individuals with no specific discipline restrictions other than its availability at the University of Oxford.  The Scholarships are for two full years with the potential of a third year given the appropriate circumstances.

Founded in 1953 by an act of Parliament, at least 40 highly selective young Americans are chosen to study at the Graduate and occasionally the undergraduate level in any field of study at an institution of Higher Education in the United Kingdom.  The purpose of the scholarship is to solidify the relationship of emerging leaders with the deep and profound connection between the British and American peoples.  The comprehensive scholarships are for 22 months with a selective opportunity to extend for a third year given very specific circumstances.

Established by the United States Department of State in 1946 to improve and strengthen the mutual understanding and relationships between the United States and other countries through the exchange of people, information and talent.  Selection is based on a variety of variables including academic record, foreign language preparation, feasibility of project, personal qualifications, and pre-determined preference factors.  A variety of disciplines may qualify and country locations and availability may dictate demand.

The National Security Education Program (NSEP) provides a unique funding opportunity for U.S. students to study world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America & the Caribbean, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.  In exchange for a commitment to work with the federal government, Americans acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future security of the United States.  The focus is on language acquisition and competence and understanding of international political and economic affairs.

This scholarship provides graduate scholarships in any discipline.  Selection criteria include: academic achievement, financial need, a will to succeed, leadership and a commitment to community involvement.

This program is designed to support American undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning on studying overseas in East or Southeast Asia.  Selection criteria include (but are not limited to the following):  US citizen or permanent resident, demonstrated financial need, and an undergraduate student seeking his or her first bachelor’s degree.

This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.  The selection criteria include (but are not limited to the following):  Students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, demonstrated financial need, and a commitment to study in less visited countries.

Through its program of Diversity Fellowships, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.  The intent of the program is to develop U.S. citizens pursing teaching or research careers in Colleges and Universities and provides a three year comprehensive fellowship.

The Goldwater Scholarship is granted to college students who intend to pursue careers in the following fields: science, mathematics, and engineering.  The applicants are evaluated based upon their field of study, career objectives, and the potential and dedication for the applicant to make a significant contribution to their field.

The focus of the Truman Scholarship Foundation is two fold:  To find and recognize college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service;  And to provide them with financial support for graduate study, leadership training, and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a difference through public service.

The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. The Foundation also seeks future Native American and Alaska Native leaders in public and community health care, tribal government, and public policy affecting Native American communities, including land and resource management, economic development, and education.  In 2007, the Foundation expects to award 80 scholarships and 50 honorable mentions on the basis of merit to sophomore and junior level college students who meet very specific criteria.

The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. The program sponsors several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies. While abroad, scholars serve as ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that led to greater understanding of their host countries.
