Biography

I truly enjoyed my experience at the University of Evansville. I was a member of Chi Omega and attended Harlaxton College for one semester. I had some difficulty finding a full-time teaching position and began working for the 4-H program. After a few years I accepted a position as an Admissions Counselor at Ivy Tech State College in Evansville. I enjoyed working in higher education and have ever since. I was an Assistant Director of Admission at IUPUI, as well as an Academic Advisor. I also worked with the Engineering Dual Degree Program which is a partnership between IUPUI and Butler University. I recently accepted a position as the Assistant Director of Admissions for the Indiana University School of Dentistry which is located on the IUPUI campus in downtown Indianapolis. I would be happy to answer questions about working in higher education or answer questions about dental hygiene or dentistry.

What I love about my job

I love working with students. I also love working in an environment that is busy, but fairly laid back. I enjoy seeing students come in the door and continue toward success. I also feel that my opinions and ideas are valued here and that is important to me.

My advice to people considering this field

Higher education administration has offered me a great career. I enjoy working with students both in and out of the classroom and offering advice and support to them along the way. I have had the benefit of a flexible schedule and a generous amount of time off. It took me a while to get to the point where I feel my salary is at a level I am satisfied with, but people usually expect that in the education arena. You should definitely be willing to continue your education to the masters or doctorate level.
