Student BioCAREER AND MAJOR EXPLORATION Joni Perdue
As a normal student who was not quite sure where she fit into the world, I found myself struggling to choose a major. My parents, teachers and friends told me what they believed was right for me, but the fact of the matter was that they didn't know. The great thing about UE's career services office was that they weren't just another voice telling me what major I should choose; they were a helping hand that provided resources for me. I could finally assess myself and make choosing my major a personal decision. After taking the Do What You Are test, which matched careers with my interests, I spoke with a counselor personally and found a major that would lead me to my desired career. My initial choice in a major was not one that I had looked into extensively. I found myself in classes that were not challenging me. After visiting career services, I found that the job I would have landed would not have matched my personality. So I began taking classes that challenged me and that I also enjoyed. Now I am working on a major in economics with a French minor. I am already preparing to apply for summer internships and thinking about graduate school. I still might not be 100 percent sure of what I am going to do with my life, but I know that I amtaking classes that are steering me in the right direction. I utilized these services:
